Day 3, 4, 5
Monkey Count: 0

Later that night we went to the hotel where our two professors are staying and watched blood diamond on a projection screen on an outdoor patio. The next day (yesterday) we discussed who violated Solomon Vandi’s human rights.

Yesterday was my birthday and it was fantastic. This is the 5th birthday I’ve celebrated outside of the US. Nicole, Laura and I sat on my bed and played some games of gin rummy. Jenna came by and the three of us tried out a new drinking spot called Dos Pinos. It is a restaurant but they served beers. At 4:30 a bus picked us up to take us to the movie theaters. The professors had organized a trip to see Batman: The Dark Knight (El Caballero de la Noche). It was in English with Spanish subtitles. Before the movie, I ate in the food court of the mall. Terrible.

After the movie, most of the class went to a bar called Hooligans located on the bottom floor of the mall. It was a good time. Drinks were consumed, conversations were had, and potato skins were eaten.

It rained both yesterday and today- quite impressively so. Today our shuttle from U Peace was delayed because of a mudslide.

I have two recommendations for Costa Rica:
1) Dogs should be neutered
No one neuters their dogs so there is a pack of wild dogs that roam ciudad colon. I have two very sweet host pooches…and they stay within the gate so I don’t think they are contributing to the pooch infestation….today in the news paper there was a story about an 11 year old boy attacked by “un pitbull.” What ever happened to dog catchers? Is that occupation still an option? Don’t see that one at career day anymore. But if they do exist… Ciudad Colon should hire one to catch all the stray dogs and stop them from procreating.

2) Showers should be warm.

Today I took my 7th Costa Rican shower today (I had to double up on a couple of days)… the shower doesn’t even have a hot water nozzle…just one handle ..on…off.
